Bird Watching:
Ferguson Park At Blackman Lake

Family friendly municipal park by Blackman Lake with confiers and riparian wetlands. The best birding is in the spring and winter. Watch for mallards, northern shovelrlers, hooded mergansers, northern pintails, American wigeons, ring-necked ducks, lesser scaups, western grebes, double-crested cormorants, dark-eyed juncos, chestnut-backed chickadees, house finches, spotted towhees and red-breasted nuthatches.

Heirman Wildlife Preserve

Take Hwy 9 to Broadway. Turn left on Broadway for .8 mile. Turn left on Connelly Rd. Dirve .7 mile to Heirman Wildlife Preserve which is a 343 acre county park on riverfront hillside with riparian, wetland and agricultural habitats. Nearly 80 species are here annually including bald eagle, American kestrel, red-tailed hawk, northern harrier, hairy woodpecker, great blue heron, belted kingfisher, and spotted towhee. Watch for common yellowthroats, and willow flycathcers during summer and tuby crowned and golden-crowned kinglets, green-winged teal, ring-necked ducks, and trumpeter swans during the winter.

Snohomish River Valley

Winter to early spring the Snohomish River Valley is attracting a large congregation of Trumpeter Swans.

Family Adventures:

Centennial Trail

Paved trail which starts at 6th & Maple in Snohomish and goes for about 20 miles to Armar Rd Trailhead at Smokey Point. It is a multiple use trail for pedestrians, bicyclists, equestrians, and other non-motorized users, which parallels the Pilchuck River in many places. A variety of farmlands, wetlands, widelife and woodland areas offer the user plenty of opportunity for a great experience. It is on an old railroad right away with gentle slope. Easily accessible parking and trailheads, as well as picnic benches, restrooms, and liter receptacles are located at convenient intervals along the entire route. Park Rangers patrol the trail on a regular basis.

Pilchuck River

Put your inner tubes in at the OK Mill Road Bridge in Machias and float down to Pilchuck Park.

Riverfront Trail

Paved trail along the Snohomish River from Cady Park(Maple Street) to Avenue D Bridge. Magnificient views of Mt. Rainier and Seattle Snohomish Mill, a working lumber mill.

Snohomish Parks

Snohomish has eight parks for you to enjoy including the Skate Board Park between 2nd and 3rd on Maple and the Hal Moe Memorial Swimming Pool. It is a high quality competitive and instructional community aqauatics facility with a separate diving tank, 6 lane by 25 yard competitive swim thank, child wading pool, and hydro-therapy spa. Water temperature for main pool is 86 degree. The hydro-therapy spa is 102 degrees.
